MISTER BEEP MICROMUSIC CHIPTUNE
LO-TEK LOW-TECH TIMEX ZX SPECTRUM SINCLAIR 1-BIT MUSIC

THE SOFTWARE
Here you can take
a look on the software I use.
Everything's written by
great coders and it
works
on TIMEX
COMPUTER 2048 (48Kb of RAM).

Music Maestro (C) 1988
3 channels, no drums – only tones.

The Music Studio (C) 1989
2 channels and
not the best drums.
Orfeus Music Assembler (C) 1990
3 channels with
really cool drums. Additionaly it has envelopes, non-editable ‘though.
Until now the
best in my collection.

The Music Box (BEEPER version) (C) 1985
but when drums
are playing, nothing more can play.

Synthesizer KX-5
(C) 1987
Tone/noise generator. This util has no sequencer, it’s made especially for generating
various interesting tones.

Sintetizador De Voz (C) 1985
Simply – 1 bit speech synthesizer (!!!).

SoundCom S-Synth (C) 80s
Another 1-bit speech synthesizer!! :)

Loop Synthesizer (C) 1987
One more tone/noise generator. Also this util has no sequencer as it’s made especially for generating
various interesting tones.

Sampler (C) 1987
As you can guess – it’s a 1-bit sampler.
Timex has audio IN connection built-in, so it doesn’t need any additional hardware for sampling.
It’s enough to load program like this one and… simply sample! ;)

ZX-7 Polyphonic Musical Instrument (C) 1988
Although it has no drums (only tones), this program makes from one BEEPER’s channel – 8 channels!!!!
Its sequencer is a bit similar to Roland TB-303’s sequencer, hehe…

Virtual Synthesiser (C) 1985
One more interesting tone/noise generator.
You can play in real-time your instruments on Timex’ keyboard.

3 Channel Synthesiser, also called Music Synth (C) 1989
Theoretically it’s impossible to make any envelopes, delays and stuff in case of one-bit sound.
Surprisingly this program allows to make them. Also it has 3 channels (including editable drums / noises).
The problem is, false notes and detuning are everywhere in the prog. Whatta pity.

Music Synth 48K T.E. (C) 2009
This is a new version of above prog but with corrected music-engine and with user-friendly interface (at last!)
Like above, you can use volumes, envelopes, delays, and everything is in 3 channels plus editable drums / noises.
No detune if you use both tone channels at once. Many thanks to Shiru! He's GREAT!
This is a very powerful modern BEEPER utility!

SAMPLE TRACKER V2.0 (C) 1993
Believe or not: real ONE BIT SAMPLES, real digital music
from BEEPER!!!
MOD for BEEPER? Almost. :) This tracker has 3 digital channels, it supports ‘D/A 8BIT’ sound-card for ZX/TIMEX,
or regular AY chip (then you have 4-bit sound),
but if you have only ZX/TIMEX with
48Kb of RAM and BEEPER – it STILL WORKS NORMALLY! (With 1-bit quality of
course).
You can make MOD-like music for your ZX/TC 48Kb and BEEPER!!

DRUM MACHINE
1-channel program that is able to generate various drum-like noices and put them into an on-board sequencer.

ALBERT EINSTEIN DRUMS (C) 1985
The next 1-channel and 1-bit drum-sequencer but much, much better than previous one (which was Drum Machine).
AE-DRUMS has nicer graphic interface, far better sequencer and also much better synthetized drum-sounds.

OPUS 1 (C) 1991
This program has only one channel but it is the strongest and the best sound-synthesizer for TIMEX/SPECTRUM ever made (at least until now), working with many fine envelopes and 8 steps of volume (still in 1-bit!!). It has also powerful sequencer capable to run in real-time too. Undoubtedly a masterpiece of coding.

GarageBEEP 3.0.1 (C) 2009 by Andrew Owen
A program for real old-school fans of BEEPER sound - only one channel, only square wave. :)

NoiseFX Machine Code Sound Effects (C) 1983
Noise-generator/synthesizer with presets.

Sonido 48K (C) 1985
As above - it's a noise-generator/synthesizer with presets.

Sintetizador de Efectos Sonoros Acusticos (C) 1986
One more cool noise-generator/synthesizer with presets.
Actually it shows nothing on the screen so I let you see a fragment of its code. ;)

Text Speak
1-bit speech-synthesizer.

DK TRONICS Sound FX (C) 1982
Synthesizer / noise-maker.

BEEPOLA (C) 2010 by Ccowley
An incredible cross-platform 1-bit "Beepola" tracker appeared (by Ccowley), emulating ZX Spectrum's BEEPER on Windows. The tracker uses an original BEEPER engine from "Fire Fly" (different than the one from Orfeus!!) but also engines from The Music Studio, The Music Box and Phaser1 (an excellent tracker by Shiru). It can export BEEPER songs to native
ZX Spectrum / Timex formats as well as to WAV files.
